With WWF, we put together everyday tips for an environmentally friendly life. An environmentally friendly lifestyle is not only good for nature, but also financially and health-wise beneficial for all of us.

1. Plant-based local food without wasteViherkrassin kasvatus keittiöliinalla

Start the morning with a quick and healthy green smoothie, in which you can put all your favorite vegetables and fruits. For dinner, vegetable soup, a hearty salad, or stew cooked on its own. Baked carrots and domestic oats for dinner. Vegetable stew from waste can be used to make vegetable dishes for an evening snack or a more fluffy omelette for the next morning. In the picture, one way to grow a little green on bread or in a salad every day. You can get food tips and recipes for six weeks by clicking WWF

2. Switch Summer flowers from disposable to perennials

Spring and summer are the golden time for flowers, and with your own plantings you can promote the sustainability of nature. Instead of annual imported flowers, choose domestic perennials, herbs and useful plants that can also be used as food. Balcony bouquets can also be combined plantings of monthly strawberries and herbs.

3. Embroider and Decorate vintage and old

Or would you borrow or rent a piece of clothing that you need less often? Continue to buy durable natural fiber clothes, as they withstand recycling, maintenance and modification better than synthetic fibers.   Did you know that fleece clothing and microfibers cause quite a lot of plastic particle emissions into waterways during their entire life cycle? The lint coming off them is very harmful to nature. So choose wool and silk❤️

4. Don’t take out the weeds

You can be lazy! Yellow flowers, especially dandelions, entertain and nourish insects. Likewise clovers and wildflowers, which should be allowed to grow and bloom. You can start fertilizing your own garden or summer cottage yard. WWF not only shares instructions and tips, it collects the total number of wild squares on its pages, so click on your own squares TÄNNE.

5. Insect hotel and birdhouse

It is easy to build an insect hotel from various natural materials, such as twigs and branches that have fallen to the ground, even together with friends or children. Up to 87 percent of flowering plants depend on animal pollination. Insects also pollinate a significant part of the vegetables and fruits that are most important to us.

Bird nesting is also increasingly challenging because the natural hollow trees are decreasing. So pick up a summer apartment or two for the birds as well. You can get the instructions by clicking Suomen Birdlife

6. Don’t rake – let nature nurture the new growth

In autumn, the leaves nourish the lawn and plants as they decompose and protect the surrounding vegetation from frost. There is no rush in spring either, as ladybugs and other insects are allowed to wake up in peace and the decaying leaves nourish the surrounding vegetation. However, if you do rake, don’t put the leaves in plastic bags and in the landfill. Build a leaf compost and let the leaves fall into soft soil in peace.

7. Choose renewable energy and promote energy efficiency

Change your electricity contract to wind and solar power. Make sure that, for example, the heating and air conditioning settings are in order at home. Lowering the indoor temperature also reduces energy consumption. Energy efficiency investments in buildings are a real climate change, and it may be possible to finance them with savings from sustainable solutions.

8. A world without plastic

The majority of plastic waste consists of food packaging. Choose minimally packaged products with recyclable packaging. Disposable plastic can be replaced with durable plastic in many cases: Kitchen storage jars in glass, buckets and spatulas in wood or metal.

For the bathroom, it is worth getting a ceramic pumpable soap bottle, for which you can buy recyclable refills. Artisan bar soap is always a good option. Did you know that cosmetic products with the Joutsenmark do not contain microplastics and Luononkosmetik is almost always completely plastic-free.

You can also downloadCosmEthics or Beat the Microbead app that scan the ingredients of products and tell you in a couple of seconds whether the product contains microplastics.

9. Durable facial cleansing clothsKasvojen puhdistusliina

While visiting the hairdresser, our owner read an article about facial cleansing cloths and the amount of global waste they produce, which was several billion pieces per day. That’s why we developed a washable, durable and eventually completely washable product to replace disposable cotton pads that often contain artificial fibers. I guess you will find the product HERE

10 . How to recycle a cleaning cloth

Wrap an old cloth around the herb pot and place the pot in a porous clay pot. The cloth keeps the herb moist and will be completely rooted in 24 weeks. The idea of zero waste should also be shared with friends ♻️
