Gingham Became the Most Versatile Pattern of All Time
Gingham is medium-weight balanced plain-woven fabric typically with striped, check or plaid pattern in white and bright color made from dyed cotton, says Wikipedia.
This classic pattern is developed in India and exported to Europe in the early 1600s. From the mid-18th century it was woven in the mills of Manchester, later in France town called Vichy. Nowadays Gingham pattern is used in many product categories and products: Kitchenware, curtains, table cloths, furnitures, home accessories, party decorations, picnic blankets and baskets.
Gingham has also been used on cloths and school dresses. We all may remember that Brigitte Bardot famously wore a pink gingham dress when she got married. This started a trend which caused a shortage of this fabric in France. In USA many famous women like Katherine Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Fonda had their own Gingham dresses. Even Jackie Kennedy wear Gingham dress and made this pattern to shine with style.
