Dishcloth Peony

The Peony dishcloth is inspired by its rich, layered form and charming scent. The peony is known to symbolize beauty, honor and love. In China, during the Qing Dynasty, the peony even became the national flower of China, and was widely used in both interior design and art.

Peonies are perennial, short-rooted herbaceous plants that grow in the shape of a small bush. They contain a lot of essential oils, flavonoids and oxalate crystals. There are a huge number of varieties, from white to intense pink, and from single-leaf to multi-leaf. Peonies are plants that thrive in slightly acidic mineral soil and do not need to be limed. Peonies also thrive in clay soil. Sand is also a good idea when planting, and adding it to the planting surface can also protect against fungal diseases.

Did you know that peonies can also be dried? They can be hung in an airy place with the inflorescence hanging down. Another method is to place the inflorescence on a bed of sand and carefully sprinkle drying sand between each petal until the entire flower is covered in sand. Sand drying is laborious, but rewarding in its end result.
