Now that a few blog posts are out, it might be a good time to introduce the person behind the texts. My name is Anniina, I’m 21 years old and live in Vantaa, Finland. I’m studying business administration with a focus on project management, and I’ve chosen to specialize in marketing. In this post, I’ll share what it’s like to have an internship in marketing at More Joy and reflect on the thoughts my career path has sparked during my studies.
Studying at a University of Applied Sciences Today
I began my business studies at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in January 2024. At the Tikkurila campus, business students study through a project-based model, which means we learn by working on real projects for real companies. This has helped me discover my interests more clearly. At the beginning of my studies, I wasn’t sure whether to pursue HR or marketing. Now, as a second-year student, I’m very happy with my decision to go with marketing—even though I had concerns about job opportunities in the field.
I’ve worked throughout my time at university, which has helped me maintain a healthy balance and step away from academic work when needed. I’ve also progressed through my studies at a faster-than-average pace. After just one and a half years, I had already completed 151 ECTS credits, which led me to dream about landing an internship for the summer. That way, I could potentially graduate by December of this year—if all goes according to plan.
In the spring, I kept wondering where I could find a marketing internship given the current employment situation. It seems there’s already an oversupply of marketing professionals, not to mention the limited number of internships compared to the number of students. Then one evening, while brushing my hair, I thought of reaching out to Susanna. We’re family acquaintances, so this wouldn’t exactly be a case of applying to a total stranger. I kept my fingers crossed while waiting for her response. As you can imagine, I was over the moon when Susanna welcomed me to join as an intern.

Internships Play a Big Role in Your Career Path
Because I received credit for my first internship based on previous work experience, this internship will last around 2.5 to 3 months. When Susanna and I began planning the internship, I couldn’t wait to get started. After hearing what the internship would involve, all I could think was how amazing this opportunity was. I get to create content for social media and gain insight into how an international micro-business is run.
Now that I’ve been interning for about a month, I already feel it has reshaped my thoughts about my future career. I used to view entrepreneurship as difficult and uncertain, which is why I was never really drawn to it. However, after talking with Susanna and Mikko about both the highs and lows of running a business, my perspective has broadened. Entrepreneurship definitely requires creativity, dedication, and drive, but it’s no longer the intimidating concept it once was. I can now even see it as a potential opportunity in my own career.
The same criteria that guide my job applications applied to finding this internship—I wanted a position that aligned with my values. At More Joy, I’ve never felt like I wasn’t allowed to express those values in my work. One of my core values is environmental sustainability. More Joy produces eco-friendly dishcloths and other products that are more sustainable for the environment. The company also isn’t afraid to take a stand on social issues that need discussion. I’ve been able to bring my own ideas into our marketing efforts and turn my visions into reality. It’s amazing to be part of a team where I feel I truly contribute—rather than just making coffee.

Learning Through Work
Every job requires a constant willingness and ability to learn, regardless of the industry. It’s been interesting to talk about how things have changed over the years. As part of the digital-native generation, it’s hard to imagine what marketing was like before today’s social media. That era called for a different kind of creativity than we use today.
I’ve been given a lot of freedom to create content for platforms like TikTok based on what I personally find engaging and effective. For me, that’s a great way to learn what kind of content resonates with people—and what doesn’t. I’ve never worked with dishcloths before, so the product category has challenged my creativity in a new but good way. In addition to social media, I’ve been writing blog posts, which I genuinely enjoy. Back in high school, I dreamed of becoming a sports journalist, so writing feels like a natural way for me to contribute.
During my internship, I’ve also had the chance to chat with professionals from a marketing agency. These conversations have been incredibly rewarding—I’ve received tips from industry experts and gained confidence in my own work. It’s been so nice that they’ve taken the time to share their expertise with someone just starting out.

Meaningful Opportunities for Students
As I mentioned earlier, this internship has been a perfect opportunity to learn about the operations of an international micro-business. As a business student, it’s incredible to get this kind of versatile experience at such a young age. I couldn’t have hoped for a better placement, and I’ll be forever grateful for this opportunity.
I would highly recommend that other marketing students look into internships at micro-businesses. You’ll really get to think about how to build an audience and attract attention on social media, because larger companies usually already have a following. With this kind of work, you can see your impact in the numbers—real, visible progress. Even though you’re not yet a professional, in a micro-business, your work leaves a mark and can make a real difference for the company.
So, I encourage every student to look beyond the obvious big names when searching for internships. Doing so can open doors for your future career while helping small business owners who are juggling many responsibilities. I’m still super excited about my internship, even though I’m already halfway through. I know I still have more to learn than I’ve learned so far. So thank you, More Joy, for trusting me with this opportunity!
